Mr. Hanley is a graduate of Towson University (B.S., magna cum laude, 1978) and the University of Maryland School of Law (J.D., with honors, 1982). He served as law clerk to the Honorable William R. Buchanan, Sr. of the Circuit Court for Baltimore County. A member of the Baltimore County and Maryland State Bar Associations, Mr. Hanley is admitted to practice before all Federal and State courts in Maryland including the Federal Trial Bar as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He is also a member of the American and Maryland Association for Justice, and The Dissenters Law Club. He has been appointed to the Faculty of the Professionalism Course for newly admitted lawyers. Mr. Hanley is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Since joining the firm in 1982, his practice has concentrated on civil litigation including complex personal injury, medical malpractice, commercial litigation and appellate advocacy. Mr. Hanley was inducted to the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers in 2015.

Mr. Hanley has obtained several settlements and/or verdicts in excess of One Million Dollars. Reported cases include: Exxon Corp. v. Yarema, 69 Md. App. 124, 516 A.2d 990 (1986) cert. denied, 309 Md. 47 (1987); Snyder v. Ridenour, 889 F.2d 1363 (4th Cir. 1989); Brodsky v. Brodsky, 319 Md. 92, 570 A.2d 1235 (1990); Inlet Associates v. Harrison Inn Inlet, Inc., 324 Md. 256, 596 A.2d 1049 (1991); Tuer v. McDonald, 347 Md. 507, 701 A.2d 1101 (1997).
